Together Again! Industry Unites in Hope and Optimism

Finally… the first big step has been taken in relaunching the global beauty expo industry, as the 25th CBE edition in Shanghai is held in an atmosphere of safety, positivity and enthusiasm.

Despite all the hurdles that needed overcoming and the post CoVid-19 limitations that were imposed in China, visitors and exhibitors have applauded the organisers and participants at the 25th CBE edition in Shanghai for their dogged determination to go ahead.

It was an event hallmarked by with masks and temperature check points, as well as many other health security measures; nevertheless CBE 2020 went ahead in Shanghai from July 9th to 11th, with more than 3,000 companies giving it their vote of confidence -more than 90% of the original total of exhibitors signing up.

The exhibition was inevitably a little less buoyant than in the past, due to travel restrictions and the lack of long-distance visitors meaning that the brands present were mostly from China and Asian countries. International brands were possible only when they were already present in the territory through a local Chinese distributor or a subsidiary based in China. So, despite the current travel restrictions, quite a few imported beauty brands open their booths.

“As expected, some foreign brands and associations cancelled their business trips due to COVID-19,” commented exhibitor, Mr Daniel Chen from Beautéville. “Nevertheless, the organiser of CBE improved the level of the exhibition, only important and professional visitors could participate. We estimate they were about half the number of visitors compared to last year, but fortunately they were all professional visitors, that lead to efficient communication and profitable exchanges of information. The exhibition for China Beautéville was as good as in previous years. Professional visitors showed a keen interest in new foreign brands, making this a great milestone for foreign brands to set up their business in China.”

According to official data, the number of visitors that pre-registered for the 25th China Beauty Expo (CBE) saw an increase of more than 20% over the same period last year, but the restrictions did reduce overseas visitor numbers: “I was surprised by the number of visitors that came to CBE,” saidMs Bridget Sun, a consultant for beauty brand importing to China “I was under the impression that there should have been a significant reduction of people coming, due to the travel difficulties. But the fair got very crowded at some booths. Some visitors even asked for specific brands that they are interested in. Of course, there were not so many foreign buyer and exhibitors. In previous exhibitions in Shanghai, there were quite many visitors from other Asian countries who were looking for distributing foreign brands.
